Meet the Bird Buddy Flock: Passionate, Dedicated, & Inspired by Nature

Here at Bird Buddy, we spent a lot of time (naturally) talking about birds. While connecting people to nature and advancing conservation efforts for our feather friends is a big passion of ours, it isn’t our only passion. That’s why we’ve decided to turn the lens inward, and celebrate our team - an incredibly diverse, hardworking, and passionate group of individuals who make Bird Buddy what it is. Over the next few months, we’re going to be highlighting members of our team from around the world and celebrating what drives them - both in and out of the office.

Yet before we go too far… let us take a moment to introduce ourselves for those meeting us for the first time!

Who We Are

Our story at Bird Buddy began in 2020, when a small but determined team launched a Kickstarter campaign for the world’s first ever smart bird feeder. With over 22,925 backers from all over the world supporting the campaign, it became one of the most successful Kickstarters in history, launching what can be described as nothing short of a revolution in backyard birding.

Since then, Bird Buddy has continued to grow (our team is 15 times larger than in 2020!) and gained even more recognition. We’ve built and nurtured a community of over 100,000 nature lovers across 113 countries, who capture over 1 million photos and videos of birds on a daily basis. We’ve been honored with the 2023 SXSW Innovation Award, and our smart bird feeder has been featured everywhere from the New York Times, TechCrunch, and Wired to The Today Show and The Price Is Right. In May, we even returned to Kickstarter to introduce two new innovations, a smart hummingbird feeder and smart bird bath!

At our core, however, we believe in building technology that connects people more deeply to nature, starting in their own backyards. That’s why we started Bird Buddy in the first place - to help nature compete for people’s attention, and give everyone the opportunity to get a little closer to the splendor of our natural world.

We view our products not just as smart gadgets to better enjoy our backyard birds, but as a means to reconnect humanity with nature - and benefit it at the same time. In our fast-paced digital environment, when it comes to nature, it’s far too often out of sight, out of mind. We seek to bridge that gap between humans and nature, because the more we give nature our attention, the more we care, and the more we are able to act. And that’s all conservation is, caring in action.

We’re dedicated to positioning our products as a way to support new and existing conservation initiatives. With our ability to collect near real-time information on birds around the world through our feeders, we give scientists, researchers, and institutions one more tool to better understand everything from the impacts of environmental changes on birds to local migration patterns and more - boosting local and global conservation efforts.

Celebrating Our Team & Culture

If there’s one thing that brings us all together, it’s our passion for nature (well, that and our love of pets… our #Petschannel on Slack is by far our most active!). Our appreciation, respect, and sense of stewardship for our natural world is what drives us to keep innovating and being our best at Bird Buddy.

Yet nature isn’t our only passion. We all bring something different to the table - and each other - on a daily basis. From scuba diving to fencing, our colleagues enjoy exploring new and dynamic ways of expressing themselves. While their interests aren’t directly related to birds, we strongly believe that being passionate about nature starts by being naturally passionate about something.

Over the next few months, follow along the journey as we celebrate individuals and teams across Bird Buddy, and what they’re most passionate about. You might discover a new passion for yourself along the way, and it just might be birdwatching!
